Meet women of grace director:
debbie Ericksen

I gave my life to Christ fifty years ago and testify to God’s limitless love, faithfulness, mercy, and grace.

My husband, Bob, and I have been married for thirty-nine years and have three grown sons and three “daughters in love”. We also have one granddaughter with another on the way in November, 2023.

My hobbies include travel, knitting, card making, and running. Perhaps that’s why the latter is also the theme of one of my favorite Bible verses:
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, (emphasis mine) fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2, NIV)

I have a BA in Political Science from Susquehanna University and an MBA in Human Resources from Fairleigh Dickinson University. When we started our family, I became a stay-at-home mom which included several years of homeschooling two of our sons. During my time of homeschooling, God re-ignited my childhood dream of being a teacher. When all three sons were back in public school, I was able to earn my teaching certifications and serve in a classroom of my own. In addition to being a mom, my public-school classroom became my mission field. During my tenure in the classroom, God blessed me with many children to care for and to teach. God generously blessed my efforts in the classroom. My work has been recognized nationally by the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching as well as by the National Science Teaching Association.

During COVID, God placed it on my heart to retire from teaching. It was bittersweet because I loved my classroom and the children in it so very much. But I went forward in peace because I knew it was what God wanted and I knew that He had something else for me to do.

In addition to my heart for service to children, I also have a heart to serve women. As Director of Women’s Ministry, I now have the incredible opportunity to walk alongside women, to build and nurture relationships, and to grow together in Christ. I can’t wait to see all that God will do through the Women of Grace.
