Boast In The Lord January 6th, 2023

John 8:31-32
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

There have been times when I wanted to hide the truth.  When I was too proud to admit that I either did something I wasn’t supposed to do, or didn’t do something I said I would do.  It is not always easy to admit failure.  My pride would get in the way of coming clean and admitting my mistake.  I thought people might think less of me if they knew that I failed at something.
My thinking was totally backwards.  Telling the truth immediately is always better than keeping bad news hidden.  Hiding the truth creates tension and fear in you.  What if someone finds out?  The tension and fear won’t go away, rather they become more intense over time.
I learned the hard way that the truth would always come out.  And when it did, I was usually in bigger trouble than if I had just been up front right away.
God knows our humanity and gave us His word to guide us.
Luke 8:17 “For nothing is secret that shall not be by made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.”
Ephesians 4:25 “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.”
God wants us to live in the light, not to be bound by the darkness of fear.  During a particularly tough time in dealing with my pride, the words of John 8:32 came to me.  Once I humbled myself and admitted my mistake, I was freed from the tension and fear I was harboring inside.  The truth had set me free!
After that experience, I determined that I would always speak the truth.
I was recently asked what my “motto” is.  I didn’t have one, but after a quick reflection, I declared my motto to be “The Truth is the ONLY option.”
If you are struggling with telling the truth, or with showing transparency, rest assured that God loves you and already knows what you look like on the inside.  Trust God and He will help you through it.
Prayer:

Lord, I thank you for Your love and mercy.  Thank you for giving us Your Holy Word to guide us along Your paths.  I ask for Your strength to put aside my earthly pride and follow Your will.  Help me to live in Your light and speak the truth at all times.
In Jesus name, Amen.
