Boast In The Lord January 27th, 2022

A Word From Sandie Kirkpatrick

“This is what the Lord says:  ‘Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this:  that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,’ declares the Lord”  Jeremiah 9:23-24

I remember the day I dropped my oldest daughter off at Sunday school, she was about 9 years old,  and I was suddenly overcome by a sinking feeling.  I realized in that moment that the years were flying by and that in a blink of an eye she would be a teenager.  She was growing up too fast and there was still so much she needed to know.

God persuaded me that I needed to be more intentional… not in a “sit-my-kids-down and teach them” daily lessons kind of way, rather be more aware and involved in what they were learning.  My children have had excellent teachers but it’s my responsibility to know what they are being taught, supplement where needed, and most importantly to model on a daily basis what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.

Teach them all about God’s promises and how faithful He is and tell them about how God is my Savior and why the Bible is true. Explain how the Bible shapes our worldview and directs every decision and step in my life.

I didn’t have the vocabulary at that moment, but what I was realizing was that I needed to boast in the Lord for who He is and all He has done in my life so that my children might know Him and learn how to boast of all He has done and is doing in their lives.

There have been many trying times throughout history and we are raising the next generation in one of those times.  Lord, I pray that you would be the voice of encouragement to help us stay the course.  Lord please fill us with your wisdom and strength so that we might continue to relentlessly pour in to the next generation by boasting in You.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
