The House we Live in. We live in a modest, yet wonderful house that we have been blessed to call our earthly home for the past 31 years. It is the house we raised our three boys in, where campfires and cookouts occurred amidst the trees in the back yard. It has a side yard where our little boys splashed in the brook and caught frogs, salamanders, tiny fish and snails. It is the last house on a dead-end street and our growing boys learned to skateboard and play basketball on the asphalt pavement that seldom sees a moving car. Many a chilly night was spent with our young adventurers in front of the dancing flames of the fireplace, imagining tall tales of heroic deeds in faraway places. This is the house that the Lord led us to. It is the house where we raised our sons to love the Lord, and accept Him as their savior. It is not the first house we looked at to buy; in fact we had looked at several and found what appeared to be an ideal house in move-in condition within our price range. It was on a cul-de-sac on the top of a mountain. I liked the mountain house and the quiet street; however it did not feel right to me. I was feeling this was not the house for us. I shared my feeling with Deb, and we agreed to seek the Lord’s guidance about this mountain house through prayer. During the night, a Bible verse kept coming into my mind; Isaiah 64:4. Isaiah was not a book of the Bible that I remember reading. When I awoke in the morning, I hurriedly reached for my Bible and looked up Isaiah 64:4. I needed to know what the verse said and why the address was being delivered to me in my sleep. The King James Version of Isaiah 64:4 reads: “For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.” I instantly knew that The Lord answered our prayer about the mountain house. We had not yet seen the house the Lord had prepared for us. When Deb awoke I shared the message I received. Deb was disappointed, but affirmed that we needed to be obedient to The Lord’s leading. I then continued searching and headed out to find houses with “For Sale” signs on them. Driving through neighborhoods, I turned around at the bottom of a valley on a dead-end street where the property owner was watering his lawn. He greeted me with “Don’t I know you?” I responded, “I don’t think so, I’m just looking for a house to buy”. He smiled and said “You can buy mine!” I looked, and there was no For Sale sign on the property. He encouraged me to come inside, which I did. The house FELT right to me so I asked the price. It was twice my budget. I didn’t know how we could afford it, but I had a peace about it that could only have come from the Lord. Fast forward...Things did work out and we have lived in this house for 31 years and our grown sons have been on fantastic adventures in faraway lands and live in other places but still love to come home, bringing their wives and loved ones. It has been a blessing and a joy to live here. We thank God that we asked and waited for HIS wisdom and direction, which brought us to this house in the valley. |
