Day 21: Paul Chambers

“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them (your bodies) be a living and holy sacrifice – the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Romans 12:1-2 (NLT)

I Can See God In My Rearview Mirror!  I often tell people that if you want to see God working in your life, all you need to do is look in your rearview mirror.

One of my earliest major sightings of God was when I became sanctified as a young teenager at a summer church camp where I surrendered my whole being, everything that I had, past, present and future, over to God for His will to be done in my life. This was life-changing for me, inside and out. From that point on, I began to look at life differently, trying to find opportunities for God’s will to unfold.

During the summer before my junior year in college, a family moved into the apartment above where my family lived. This family’s daughter and I became friends. Her name is Rhonda (my wife). I like to call this Divine Coincidence, because it was all God and it was no coincidence at all! I am the most fortunate man that I know because God brought Rhonda into my life.

I was fired from my first career job. As devastating as this job loss was, it opened a new door into a thirty-two year opportunity that was “immeasurably more than all I could ask or imagine”. Part of my career journey involved packing up my family and moving from Michigan, where my three children were born, to New Jersey, a place I promised myself I would never live. That was over 21 years ago, and now New Jersey is home and the place I have lived the longest.

The most recent major sighting of God in my life was when He led me and my family to Grace Chapel. I have had the blessing of worshiping with sanctified believers much of my life and Grace gives me yet another opportunity to dwell in a Bible-believing community.

Another thing that I tell people is that it is a good thing that God only reveals His will in our life one day at a time, otherwise we would be very fearful to take another step knowing what is ahead. His grace is sufficient to get us through one day at a time in good times and tough times.

I don’t know where you are in your journey with God, but I can tell you that His will for your life will be so much better than any possible scenario that you can come up with. Surrender your whole being to God and let Him take all of the pieces and He will put together a masterpiece, as only the Creator God can do with His Creation.

Prayer
Father, help us to daily give our lives to You, for You to form and shape us into Your ambassadors in a world where we don’t belong. You can take the good times and make them even better. You can take the difficult times and work miracles. Now, whatever circumstance that we are in, may we present ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to You. Help us to discern what Your good, pleasing and perfect will is in our lives each day. In the name of Christ, our LORD and Savior, Amen.
